BARC Pet Food Pantry |
| | America's economic crisis is forcing more and more families to make the difficult decision to give up their pets because they can no longer afford to feed them.
To alleviate this heartbreaking situation, the Baldwin County Humane Society (BARC!) is establishing the first Pet Food Pantry in this region.
BARC! has partnered with community food banks to assist income-eligible families with food for their dogs and cats to make sure families can keep them.
The community is asked to donate all types of pet food -– dry and canned food for dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. (Smaller bags of 10 pounds or less are preferred because they are easier to store and distribute.) Cat litter is needed, too.
The collection points throughout Baldwin County are: Robertsdale Feed Store at 21353 Highway 59 S; PetSense at the Tanger Outlet in Foley; Get Personal Custom Embroidery at 14923 State Highway 59 in Foley; RW North Salon at 25325 U.S. 98 in Daphne; and the BARC! Office at 306 Magnolia Ave in Fairhope.
This is an ongoing pet food pantry and distribution rather than one-time pet food drive.
With the help of volunteers, BARC! will be able to collect and transport the much needed pet food from the collection points around Baldwin County to the distribution sites of Ecumenical Ministries in Fairhope and Foley and Prodisee Pantry in Spanish Fort.
One of BARC's missions is to educate the general public in the humane control and care of all animals. Ensuring that our companion animals never go hungry is one of the most basic, and most critical, aspects of animal welfare.
